Chocolate Facts:
When originally introduced to Europe, chocolate was only consumed as a drink. However, the fatty part of the cacao bean rose to the top, forming unsightly greasy pools. In 1828, a Dutchman, Van Houten, invented a hydraulic press that separated out the cacao butter, leaving behind what we know today as "Cocoa Powder".
Left with the cacao butter as a by-product, manufacturers hit on the idea of mixing it with ground cacao beans and sugar, the result being a solid substance which could be cast in a mould, and "eating chocolate" was invented - it was first marketed by the Fry family in 1849.
